2008

These are just a few photos from The Danish Galla Ball on the 23rd May in Dubai - the icesculpture, the ballroom, the tablecards and finally the the ladies who made it all possible: Trine, me, Pernille and Helle (Lone was in Dk)

This is Maryville Park where we hope to rent this really nice villa.

Maryville Park connects Lisburn Road and Malone Road and apparently this is one of the best adresses in Belfast.

Even though we are in the middle of the city - there is a great view of the mountains in the distance.

So you may cross your fingers for us - we will know next week if this will be our new home.

NEWSFLASH:
WE HAVE TODAY (5TH JUNE) PAID THE DEPOSIT ON THE HOUSE!

On Sunday we drove along the County Antrim coast, called the Coastal Causeway.

Carricfergus Castle

Glenarm Church

We almost missed this the view from this bridge:
Rather like a postcard, isn't it?  the car park behind the church, with picnic tables

and a rather fantastic mosaic in front of the building with the toilets..

Next stop Carnfunnock Country Park - with a small coffeeshop serving fresh scones

The sign very appropriately warns against birddroppings from above (well, they would hardly come from beneath, would they?)

A quick stop to admire yet another beautiful view, this time of the ruins of a small castle.

The railway (true Thomas the Tank Engine style) from Giants Causeway to Bushmills.
Giants Causeway

Giants Causeway is a UNESCO World Heritage site displaying unsual six sided basalt columns. It is thought they are the result of volcanic activity.

It is hard to believe man had nothing to do with these rock formations. No wonder history tells of giants making these steps.

Bushmills Distillery has been licensed to make whiskey since 1608, but there is evidence that a whiskey has been made here since app 1400 (note to you language buffs: whiskey is Irish, whisky is Scottish...)

The old buldings of the famous distillery - we were not allowed to take photographs inside as the vapours were highly inflammable.

The tour finished in the bar, where we were given a taste of a whiskey of our choice.

We are now at Castlewood Apartments, Templepatrick, about 15km from the Norfolk Line office.

Our apartment is on ground floor

Poul with the golf course in the background

and checking out 1st tee

The driving range is suitably covered against the rain

The hotel next door (Hilton) seen from one of the fairways

Local inhabitants

and more of same

On Sunday 8th June we went to Hillsborough Garden Show - not realising it is a major attraction (and an expensive one, too). We were even taken by shuttlebus from the carpark to the exhibition site.

 "Let sleeping logs lie"
Musical entertainment

A "maze to be"...or maybe it was designed for leprechauns...

This one's for Simon on Kirkeltevej

Hillsborough Castle Garden Walks - beautiful as you will see:

 Magnificent rhododendrons
and lastly views from the garden over Hillsborough

An afternoon walk in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park -  a small part of the great Lagan Valley Regional Park which stretches for miles in hte centre of Belfast. Parts of the park are within walking distance of our house.

The zoo in Belfast is making a lot of effort to keep up with modern demands and are rebuilding a lot of areas. It was a vry pleasant afternoon out. But cold - 15degrC!!

Tina the elephant

Views over Belfast from the zoo

these signs are everywhere guiding you to the different areas of the zoo
Cheetahs hiding in the high grass

Barbary Lions
 Blacktailed prairie dogs
Greater flamingo seen from afar and:

Close up
 The gorilla house
Pen of the liontailed macaque
 The malayan sunbear
Bird recognition chart for the open aviary

I didn't see many birds, but the aviary is stunning in it self

Signs everywhere explaining about the animals

Rothschild's giraffe and zebras

Another view
 Sea lions
here was a mother and baby

The zoo makes a great effort to give the animals a good environment, insluding places to hide from us, the spectators. "You will invariably be disappointed" it said.
