These following pics are from our topping-out ceremony  (this is the google translation of the Danish word: rejsegilde). This is to celebrate that the rafters for the roof have been put in place. Traditionally you have a wreath with ribbons placed on the rafters and invite the builders and neighbours and friends  for a small gathering where you eat sausages and drink beer. People bring gifts of flour, salt and coins to be placed inside the roof as a guarantee that you will always have food and money in your new house. We had this in July - and a bit later than usual as the carpenter needed to work flat out to finish the roof before the rain arrived.
