Celebrating the 36th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates on 2nd December 2007
|
Hajj started on the first day of the Hijja month and continues to Friday 20th December. App. 2,5mio pilgrims gather in Macca in Saudi Arabia to offer prayers. |
In Dubai and all over the UAE leaders offer prayers and receive well-wishers |
Lots of sweets are needed for the holidays. Also sheep for sacrifice - in memberance of Abraham who was about to sacrifice his son and was given a sheep instead. The white sheep in the pic below is a special Saudi breed and sells for the formidable sum of dhs50.000...Officially all sacrificial butchering must be undertaken by authorized butchers. They do have difficulties keeping up with demand, though, so the authorities are trying to curb the "wandering butchers" who will look for work by going door-to-door. The Red Crescent are organizing distribution of the meat to the needy - and it is also possible to buy a voucher instead of slaughtering your own sheep - thereby giving meat to the poor. A voucher costs about USD100. |

This year Amanda Moltke-Leth and her brother Gorm (her caddy for the tournament) stayed with us.
It was a great tournament - unfortunately Denmark did not win as Iben Tinning lost a ball in the water on the ver last hole. However, all 5 Danish players made the cut and did really well in the tournament as a whole. We look forward to an even stronger Danish team next year. |
As tradition bids - we met up for baking christmas cookies. Five families (minus husbands/fathers) came to Deema 92 for some hours of fun and baking: it was the Skjolbros, the Tindborgs, the Vinders, the Johanssons and the Woodalls (sans children, as the only one) | Caroline, Birgitte and Ann-Katrine |
Birgit and Christian | Phillip | Nina, Christian and Birgitte |

and to finish the day off - some warm risengroed with butter and cinnamon | Phillip, Rasmus and Mikkel | |
On the 20th December we decided it was time for the first "gloegg and aebleskiver" of the year | So a quick couple of phonecalls later we managed a pot-luck get-together with the Johanssons and the Tindborgs and Klaus parents and sister. |
