Eid Mubarak - this year Eid al Fitr marking the end of the fasting month was  declared on October 12th
Below you see Shaikh Khalifa, President of the UAE offering Eid prayers, Shaikh Mohammad, Ruler of Dubai, offering prayers in Dubai with two of his sons, and finally Shaikh Khalifa receiving dignitaries

The following are pictoures from Eid around the world. First from Manila, then Jerusalem (al Aqsah Mosque), next Indonesia and finally China

These pictures clearly illustrate the fast development of Dubai - and where it's going to go. Unbelievable!!!

In October The Soerensen family from Aasletten in Denmark came to Dubai to sample the desert and the snow

Henrik, Michael and Frederik enjoying breakfast on the patio.
In Mall of Emirates the boys soon found the games section with this fancy ride

The guys who are quite accomplished on skis decided to see if the Ski slope in the desert is up to scratch.

The conclusion: the skis were good quality, but badly maintained, the snow was a bit funny and minus 4degr can feel mighty cold. But a good time was had by all three.
Frederik, Henrik, Frederik and Lillian on the way to Dibba  Maku Dive in Dibba is still very much there in spite of cyclone Gonu and a hideous japanese hotel next door
Fariyd, our boatsman on the Zodiac inflatable  After the first venture in the water we had lunch on the beach  later some of us had a nap...
and others went for a second trip in the water  Fariyd and Kurt getting some help pulling out the Zodiac   Going home the desert looks beautiful
A must for visitors is a trip up and down the Creek  You hire an abra for an hour to take you up the Creek - though the trip is cut a bit short now as a floating bridge has been constructed to alleviate some of the traffic congestion

Contrasts on the Creek
In the Spice souq we bought Iranian saffron and fresh vanilla pods from Madagascar  and the boys bought traditional woollen headscarves (gutra) and black ties (igal). According to Marc they make really nice and soft winter neckscarves

Frederik and Michael on the way to look at fake Rolex's
Lunch was a mixture of traditional arabic (lebanese) dishes  a traditional Dhow, maybe on the way to Iran.
The big Jumeirah Mosque (now renamed "The Mosque with the Two Towers) is an enlightning experience.  App. 200 people had found their way to the thrice weekly guided tours of the mosque all part of the "Open doors, open minds" programme. The guides Mohammad and Abdallah answer all our questions
Abdallah shows how muslims pray
Next stop: the Dunes by Big Red. Here the driver, Bashir, with the guys  Frederik on a quad bike  and Michael
The desert camp, where dinner is served and various entertainment is offered
Michael getting his henna tattoo    and Fredriks tattoo - don't know why this is picture is turned the wrong way.... sorry
enjoying dinner  Henrik and Lillian  -
The public beach near Burj al Arab - with a sand dredger in the background
Lunch in Mdinat Jumeirah - Japengo cafe serves huge and delicious burgers.  a walk in souq Madinat Jumeirah  Burj al Arab seen from the Madinat
The last day of the holiday was spent at Emirates Golf Club and the boys were transported there jaguar-style  Michael by the pool-bar  Charlotte and Lillian enjoying the shade
Where's my drink? Sorry - the waiter is too slow, Poul.  After brunch the club gave a free golf clinic and the guys had instruction and were soon acting like real pros.  Michael managed a drive to 182yds
and Frederiks drive went a whopping 188yds
In the meantime Lillian and I went to Ibn Battuta shopping mall where we waited in vain for the elephant clock to perform it's magic....it's not very precise but very impressive.  In China Court of the mall this Phillipina lady was posing for a photo - and Lillian was a bit more cool  viewing one of the building projects in Dubai - probably part of the Palm Jumeirah development.
Thanks  for coming to Dubai - we hope to see you back here in the future...
